What does Cyclopital3D mean?

The term “Cyclopean Image” has been used in antiquity to describe 3D imagery; named after the mythical Cyclops with a single “Cyclopean Eye.” The Cyclopean Image is a single mental image of a scene created by the brain by combining two images received from the two eyes. The mental process behind construction of the Cyclopean image is crucial to stereo (3D) vision.

Cyclopital3D brings 3D photography into the digital age with innovative products that are enabled by new digital photographic technologies and modern digital displays. Digital technologies are the driver behind the next “golden age” of the third dimension.

It is often said that "History repeats itself" and many people believe that is the case with stereo photographry.

Click here to read an excerpt from Herbert C. McKay’s 1951 book, Three-Dimensional Photography: Principles of Stereoscopy, that describes the state of 3D photography in the 1950s and the rapid acceleration of its popularity at that time. We have inserted a few words in parenthesis that could make this statement apply to our current times, in the 21st century.
