Ken has been studying optics for more than 30 years with a special focus on stereoscopic photography and its peripherals for more than15 years.
Ken spent the past 15 years working as the Chief Technical Officer for a small technology firm specializing in geospatial technologies and invented several patented products that are still being marketed. He is both a software engineer and product design engineer who is always “inventing” something new and making notes about the possibilities; he currently holds 7 patents and is mentioned in more than 400 others. What does Cyclopital3D mean?
The term “Cyclopean Image” has been used in antiquity to describe 3D imagery; named after the mythical Cyclops with a single “Cyclopean Eye.” The Cyclopean Image is a single mental image of a scene created by the brain by combining two images received from the two eyes. The mental process behind construction of the Cyclopean image is crucial to stereo (3D) vision.
Cyclopital3D enhances modern 3D photography and filmmaking by creating innovative and useful products. New digital technologies and amazing clear displays are driving this next “golden age” of the third dimension.
We also make all of our products with 3D printers! Check out our partner company, CY3D Printing by clicking here.
It is often said that "History repeats itself" and many people believe that is the case with stereo photographry.
Click here to read an excerpt from Herbert C. McKay’s 1951 book, Three-Dimensional Photography: Principles of Stereoscopy, that describes the state of 3D photography in the 1950s and the rapid acceleration of its popularity at that time. We have inserted a few words in parenthesis that could make this statement apply to our current times, in the 21st century.
